Jay,

Back here for the first time since January. Been a long time since I was the age of the folks in your "Downfall" strip. And when I was that age I didn't know many kids with a sense of irony. At least, in those days nobody spoke with any irony. But I can say that I remember ALL the feelings, spoken or not. You're very adept at making them come alive, all over again. And to do that is a very special thing, painful as it is!

Hey, wow, thank you for the thoughtful comments!! I try hard to write my characters authentically, even though it's been quite awhile since I was that age as well. It's very easy to trivialize a lot of what seemed so important then when looking back, but I try to remember that at the time, it wasn't trivial at all, it's important to these kids, and if you're gonna write them, you have to respect that. And the awkwardness, pain, and negativity that's so universal, I think, at that age, needs to be there or it's just fake.

I really appreciate you taking the time to drop me a comment, it absolutely made my day! I hope you'll continue to read and enjoy the strip, and I always welcome feedback!

Absolutely right with you. If a writer trivializes, it had better be good satire. Otherwise it's all just wasted effort.

I got married the first time when I was twenty-two. Didn't make the decade mark. Got married the second time when I was a hundred-fifty (in wiseness years). This one's forever!
